(Feb.) Washington stays for two weeks at the Cromwell’s Head Inn, located near today’s 17 – 19 School Street. The purpose of his visit is to persuade Gov. Shirley, commander-in-chief of American troops, that, as a colonel in the Virginia forces, Washington outranks a captain in the Maryland forces in terms of military seniority.
